GRAND OPENING OF THE DOJO!
Friday 1st July 2022
fter the first throw on the new mats, the President of the British Judo Association, Rowena Birch led a session in the new dojo, club members, Keswick Judo Club, children who attend after-school and breakfast clubs in the local area along with local dignitaries were invited to the opening of Sankaikuni Judo. Several children are keen on joining the club or have now joined Sankaikuni Judo after enjoying a fantastic time with Rowena. The children were able to get photographs and autographs with Rowena after the session. Spectators were able to watch the session on TVs downstairs in the viewing area with some refreshments.
FIRST SESSION IN THE PERMANENT DOJO
2nd February 2022
Sankaikuni Judo were delighted to open the doors of their new Dojo in New College Hall, St. Bees.
The session was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the Judokas, who were so excited to move in.
This is just the start of expanding our Judo community within West Cumbria.
SANKAIKUNI’S FIRST GRADING
December 22nd 2021
Tonight the club did its first ever grading session. The promotions were:Isaac Smith: 1st shoJamie Smith, Lucas Miller, Bethany Bone & Jamie Bone: 1st mon Ed Morris and Kian Graham: 4th monCJ Rowell: 5th mon
The club also had a presentation night where judoka of the year, runner up and best attendance were given out.

ELLIE AND KELVIN COACHED BY NEIL ADAMS
Wednesday 10th November
On Wednesday 10th November, Ellie and Kelvin travelled to Kendal Judo Club for a a coaching session from Great Britain's greatest Judoka: Neil Adams. Janice also caught up with her colleague from the British Judo Mentoring scheme: Niki Adams.
Neil won two Olympic silver medals.
ELLIE COMPLETES LEVEL 1 COACHING COURSE
7th November 2021
Ellie completed a two day course at SKK Judo Club in Newton-le-Willows. She learned coaching techniques as well as how to successfully plan lessons.
KESWICK JUDO CLUB VISIT

Sankaikuni Judo’s partner club, Keswick, visited for a senior training session.
KELVIN COMPLETES COMPETITIVE SKILLS EXAM

Kelvin attended the course tutored by Dave Horton-Jones 7th Dan. This took place at York Judo club. The course ensures an opportunity to further develop judo skills, which will help Kelvin as he completes his 3rd Dan.

JANICE TRAINS TO BE A SENIOR EXAMINER

Janice attended York Judo Club in order to observe the Technical Dan Grading and Competitive Skills Exam course.
Completion of this training means that Janice can examine for the promotion to black belt.
Janice is pictured at York Judo Club with Rowena Birch OLY the vice president of the BJA. Rowena is also Janice's former team GB team mate.
KELVIN GETS HIS 2ND DAN

Sankaikuni Judo are proud to announce that one of our coaches, Kelvin, successfully attained his competitive 2nd Dan.

ELLIE VISITS THE BUDOKWAI
July 10th 2021
On Saturday, Ellie from the coaching team visited the Budokwai in London. This is the oldest Judo club in Europe and was set up in 1918 by Gunji Koizumi. Her visit was made extra special by Janice, who organised her to meet her old training partners, as well as one of the directors of the Budokwai: Peter Blewett.
The class was hosted by Ray Stevens, Olympic silver medallist 1992. The training session included fitness as well as socially distanced uchi komi training.
Ellie hopes to visit again at a later date when full contact Judo can resume.
THE CLUB LAUNCHES ITS FIRST SESSION

After the lifting of the lockdown restrictions, Sankaikuni finally hosted its inaugural session to great success.
